My (super cute and wonderful) sister helped me make these adorable heart streamers... I did the cutting and she did the sewing.

They are simple, yet so adorable and perfect for Valentine's Day (and they cost nothing--cuz I already had the paper).

At my house, we are starting a new tradition: A Valentine's Day Tea! It will be for the grandkids and all my sisters. Cupcakes, candy, herbal tea, pink lemonade, and other yummy desserts will be served. Oh ya... and they have to dress in their fanciest, most beautiful attire. I am already thinking of cute Valentine's Day activities, decor, and crafts! Good thing I have nearly a month to get everything ready.

Well, hello ma'am (I don't think there are any misters out there). It sure has been awhile!

I have a list of excuses for my extended hiatus from this blog.

Any who, I am back (this time I mean it). I have missed this blog; as it is my creative outlet. I love to create, but I can only create when I am not stressed. As of now, I am not stressed. I have had a nice, relaxing Christmas break. I am so not stressed and I kinda wish I was, because not being stressed is b.o.r.i.n.g. However, my boredom created this new blog design. Maybe that's a good thing? I think I like this one (give me a week--I always change my mind in a week).

If you know me, you know that I love a good deal... but even better than a good deal, is a FREEBIE! If you like free stuff too, then keep reading...

A couple months ago, I came across this website called: Feed your Soul. (I posted about it here). It is a "free art" website that offers a free art download from a different artist every month. After you download your favorites, all you need to do is print them off and frame them. So easy!

tutorial: pleated picture frame

We are just tickled to share our new tutorial with you! This is such a simple and inexpensive way to turn pictures into a true work of art. It's called a Pleated Picture and we want to show you step by step how to make one! The possibilities are endless when it comes to a pleated picture. I have one in my home and I use it to display pictures, ticket stubs, and other paper memorabilia from a favorite vacation. And it's so easy to switch it out every now and then. Did someone have a baby and send you a baby announcement? Put the baby announcement and other pictures into a pleated picture and give it to them as a gift. Did you get a wedding announcement? This is a very fun way to display the happy couple's picture and announcement that will be cherished for years to come. Now lets get started!

First of all, find the perfect frame. You can go out and buy a brand new one, or try the frugal route and find one around your home or thrift store. Keep an open mind and remember that some of the ugliest frames just need a little paint and tlc to reveal their true beauty!

The number of strips you will need is determined by how tall your cardstock base is. My base was 10” tall, so I cut out 10 strips. If your base is 12” tall, you will need 12 strips. Pretty simple.

***Happy 4th of July!***

In honor of this fun and summer-y holiday, we wanted to give you some free (who doesn't love free stuff?) printables for your family parties.

With these, you are sure to impress your guests!

We hope you enjoy these cupcake toppers and the bottle wrappers! I mean, HELLO! All you need to do is print, cut out, and decorate! We did the hard part and you get all the credit when your guests are ooohing and aaahing! And just so you know, we just printed them off on regular printer paper, but you could also print them on cardstock.

(we secured the cupcake toppers with a sucker stick. But we think a popsicle stick or a toothpick would look fine and dandy, too.)

Forgo the pop can and take your party to the next level with vintage-looking glass soda bottles. We dressed them up with our exclusive bottle wrapper design and added a cute little star to the straw. How patriotic do these look!?

I love anything to do with crepe paper, so when I saw this, I knew I had to share it with you. It is a darling crepe paper garland with fancy fringe! I found it over at The Gaines Gang and you can view the tutorial here.

These wedding invitations turned out b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! Chandeliers are all the rave right now and I had to incorporate them into a design. This impressive invitation consists of 2 major parts: the main invite and the sheer overlay with the chandelier on top. I also love how this invite is mounted onto a metallic, textured cardstock. a tired clock redo

Last week I tried to change the batteries in this tired, old clock. Even with new batteries, this clock wouldn't work. My first reaction was to throw it in the trash and get rid of it... but then I had a revelation! How could I just throw out something with such potential? After all, I have been looking for the perfect picture frame to put my initial in. Little did I know that I had it all along, already hanging on my wall. All it took was a little paint and cute paper to transform this baby from a tired-old-clock to a lovely wall hanging!

I won't include an entire tutorial for this craft, because it is pretty self-explanatory, but I will include the supplies needed...

Supplies needed: a cute picture frame, pretty paper for background and initial, glue, scissors, and your initial printed in your favorite font

Craft Tip: By tracing a font, you get a unique look for your initial artwork. I got my font free from Kevin and Amanda (my favorite is My Own Topher).

I know this is a paper blog, but I seriously have all these paper-related-cupcake-ideas running through my mind! Maybe it is because cupcakes are so yummy and I just want an excuse to make (and EAT) them? Maybe.

These little lovelies are decorated using paper doilies I got from the dollar store. They are the small size and the middle is the same size as the top of a cupcake. Basically, all you do is cut out the middle, place the doily on top of the cupcake and then frost using any tip you want! So easy and so vintage.

And in case you were wondering... they were delicious!!

I love light blue and brown together and how adorable are those bird cages??

I put those cupcake papers I blogged about a couple weeks ago to good use at a wedding last week. They turned out SO cute and they were all the rave [I really should apologize to the bride and groom for stealing their thunder... ha]! But seriously, some of the wedding guests were taking pictures of these deliciously, cute treats.

Oh ya, and I used paper I already had around my house [who has time to scrapbook anymore??] and so I "technically" didn't spend a penny on these little lovelies!

Paper clips. Those little, funny shaped metal things that hold paper and get lost in the back of your drawers. They really just don't get the credit they deserve. Now, I know this is a paper blog, and well, paper clips aren't exactly made out of paper. I love making cupcakes, because they are so yummy and they can be so cute! I love finding cute cupcake liners [I collect them], but I hate it when they blend in with the cupcake after I pull them out of the oven. You know what I mean? So, in an effort to find cupcake papers that don't fade in the oven, I found these darling cupcake papers at Fancy Flours and... oh my! I'm in love! To use them, you cook your cupcakes with ordinary [cheap] cupcake liners and then you wrap these cupcake papers around your cupcakes when you are done decorating. So cute, right?

Unfortunately, these little cupcake papers can be a bit pricey... so I made up my own template which you can download here. Making my own is so much more fun, because I can use any paper I want [not to mention the fact that I am saving money]! To make your own cupcake papers, all you have to do is download and print off the template, trace it onto cute paper, secure it together with a little hot glue, and place your cupcake inside. So easy!!

Ever heard of Heather Bailey? Well in case you don't know, she is a very talented gal. And she has a bunch of awesome paper crafts on her blog. The craft that stuck out the most to me were the paper globes. Oh my. They are just to die for! They are SO extremely and quite possibly very versatile. They can be used for just about any occasion and pretty much every holiday. Dangle them from the ceiling, hang them on a Christmas tree, make a bouquet, string them on a garland--the sky is the limit folks! And the best part: you can download the pattern for FREE by clicking here! Thanks Heather! [yes, we're on a first name basis... she just doesn't know it yet.]

I just love the heart dangle on these valentine globes.

We knew that our first giveaway had to be something unique, yet it had to involve some type of paper, afterall, this is a paper blog! That's why we chose this creative and inspiring newspaper wrapped picture frame (fits a 4x6 photo). We also adore the simplicity of the bird design. Believe it or not, the bird and tree are embroidered right on the newspaper and they are made out of felt. I absolutely love this picture frame and I couldn't resist buying one for myself!

tutorial: tissue paper pom poms

I have made these tissue pom poms a couple of times for different occasions. They are such a simple and inexpensive way to turn any ordinary space into a breathtaking sea of floating flowers. And they are way easy to make--even though they don't look it. They are perfect for spring and would be a fabulous touch for any shower, reception, or birthday party. I got the idea and pictures from Martha Stewart.

Step 1: Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inch-wide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.

Step 2: Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

Step 3: Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

Step 4: Hang and enjoy!

And after you've mastered the technique, try making different sizes in different colors and hang them at various heights. Also, I threw a few paper lanterns in the mix. It looked neat having the different textures.

The tissue paper party favors (found here) would compliment these hanging pom poms perfectly!

I have had this little red step stool for forever and it has sat in the corner of my kitchen unnoticed. I have been meaning to repaint and sand it for quite some time now. Yesterday, I finally got to it, but instead of repainting it (it was already red) I glued some black and white damask paper on top with Mod Podge. After everything was dry, I went over the whole thing with sandpaper and gave it an antique look. Then, I gave it one more coat of Mod Podge to protect the paper in case anything spills on it (sometimes my kitchen can get pretty messy).

This idea was inspired by a cute little bench I saw at Emilie Jayne, a darling consignment store in Salt Lake City (where I could spend hours upon hours in--seriously).

I found these vintage postcards at an antique mall in Salt Lake City. They are simply lovely. Some of them are over a hundred years old which makes them even more beautiful. I love how delicate each of the designs are and I adore the texture of the paper. I think there's something very personal about sending someone you love a handwritten note, like these.

This last postcard says "Why don't you write?" I would love to know the story and I'd like to think it was a love story.

Lately, the beauty and simplicity of paper has consumed my thoughts. It comes in so many mediums and with a little creativity, it can be transformed into a masterpiece. Afterall, doesn't all art start on paper in some form or another? Check out these gorgeous weddings gowns found at Papier Couture. Believe it or not, all these gowns are made from paper. To be more specific, they are made from white tabloid paper and after a lot of cutting, glueing, and sewing the paper is transformed into these beautiful wedding gowns.

I found this darling party favor idea in the Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine (Spring 2010). It is so easy and all you need is some tissue paper, string, ribbon, and scissors. In this sample, they put a dahlia bulb in the favor pouch, but it can hold anything you need it to--just think--the possibilities are endless! For more party favor ideas, check out our website here!

This blog is going to be a creative journal in cahoots with The Lovely Paper Shop website where I design and print custom wedding invitations, baby announcements, and personal stationary.

This blog will be about all things paper because paper is lovely. There is something delicate and simple about paper that I absolutely adore. Paper can be colored, shaped, cut, sewn, ripped, painted, crumpled, printed--therefore, it can be transformed into nearly anything.
